 **Javier Mojica Madera** is a leading Afro-Colombian artist and educator. He is professor of fine arts at the Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia. A graduate of the Instituto Departamental de Bellas Artes of Cali, Mojica completed a MA degree at the Universidad Autónoma de Mexico and a PhD in art at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Spain (2009). Mojica’s art has been showcased in the most important exhibits on Afro-Colombian art, including *Viaje Sin Mapa* and *Mandinga Sea!*, mentioned above. His photo-essay and photographic exhibit *Miradas de Carnaval* (Carnival Gaze) seeks to study the African aesthetic influences on the carnival celebrations in the Caribbean coast of Colombia, particularly in Barranquilla.
